BAKER FOUR SQUARE

This historic four square had been victim to a few remodels over its life, and our clients’ primary goal was to make their home feel cohesive.  We all loved the layout and flow of this home and treasured the moments of original historic fabric it still had, so we decided to lean into the home’s assets and carry them through out the remodel.

Transforming this compact kitchen into a functional centerpiece became the focal point of our remodel. Addressing structural issues in the original brick wall necessitated rebuilding the rear of the house, allowing us to expand the windows and bathe the kitchen in beautiful northern light. Rethinking the kitchen layout was crucial to enhancing functionality, and we seamlessly integrated a beverage center for added convenience.

Aesthetically, our goal was to create a bright and airy ambiance while maximizing storage efficiency. We opted for crisp light blue walls, complemented by white cabinets and a pristine white tile backsplash. To maintain charm amidst functionality, we incorporated handmade star and cross tiles into the backsplash, with a whimsical hand-painted design accentuating the beverage area. A marble-look quartz countertop and accents of black and brass added touches of sophistication and glamour.

Continuing the flow from the rest of the home, we extended the wood flooring into the kitchen and introduced a custom steel and wood island to infuse warmth into the space. The laundry room and pantry received thoughtful updates, featuring built-in storage that harmonizes seamlessly with the kitchen's finishes. This comprehensive approach not only revitalized the kitchen but also transformed it into a welcoming and efficient hub of the home.

The custom fireplace in this room steals the spotlight with its unique blend of old and new. Pairing a contemporary gas fireplace insert with an antique coal fireplace cover not only adds functionality but also infuses the space with undeniable charm. A custom fireplace surround was designed to complement the rich woodwork of the dining room, ensuring a seamless transition between spaces.

To enhance the fireplace's character, we incorporated a variety of handmade tiles in different sizes and finishes. Carefully arranged, these tiles create a textured backdrop that feels like a natural extension of the home’s history and character. Additionally, we introduced a custom window featuring a delightful diamond pattern, allowing gentle natural light to brighten the room.

This thoughtful integration of modern convenience and classic design elements transforms the room into a captivating focal point, blending heritage with contemporary flair for a space that feels both inviting and uniquely memorable.

THE DINING ROOM

This room underwent a significant transformation to resolve its inconsistencies. We meticulously reframed all doorways to achieve uniform height, enhancing the room's symmetry and cohesion. Custom wood paneling was skillfully added under the chair rail, adding a touch of elegance and texture.

To ensure seamless flow between spaces, we carried the same paint color used in the living room into the dining area. This harmonious choice not only connects the two rooms but also creates a unified backdrop that enhances the overall continuity of the home's design.

This quaint bathroom was overdue for a refresh. We commissioned a custom door to seamlessly match the existing doors throughout the home, complemented by porcelain doorknobs that add a touch of classic elegance. Introducing a patterned tile flooring injected a hint of visual intrigue, while maintaining simplicity with off-white and deep blue finishes that harmonize beautifully within the space.
