COAL CREEK

This Coal Creek renovation, where our clients envisioned their forever home, was designed into a warm, inviting space that their family would love to come back to day after day. Our mission was to enhance the flow of their living areas, transforming the home into a seamless sanctuary.

In this home, contrast reigns supreme. We played with a rich palette of light and dark finishes, adding depth and character while highlighting unique architectural features. Warm hardwood flooring stretches across the main level, grounding the design, while a soft grey paint serves as the perfect backdrop, tying everything together with a contemporary touch.

Explore how we turned this vision into reality, creating a space where family memories can flourish.

THE KITCHEN

Modern kitchen with a large white island, three brown leather bar stools, gray cabinets, stainless steel refrigerator, black faucet, and decorative items like amber soap dispensers, a black bowl with artichokes, a tall yellow vase with dried branches, and wall mirrors.

The kitchen truly serves as the heart of this home. We transformed the original builder-grade space into a warm, inviting area designed for everyone to enjoy. The standout feature is the impressive island, featuring light cabinetry and a stunning quartz countertop—perfect for morning coffee and family baking sessions.

Surrounding the island, we chose a sophisticated grey finish with a brushed linen texture, adding depth and character. This finish beautifully complements the high-variation backsplash tile, which brings a handcrafted quality to the space. To create a cohesive look throughout the home, we incorporated black metal accents in the hardware and light fixtures, seamlessly uniting the kitchen with the overall design aesthetic.

The Butler’s Pantry has quickly become one of our favorite spaces in this home. We enjoyed experimenting with the backsplash tile pattern, using the same tile featured in the kitchen but arranged in a charming herringbone design. The warm tones are continued throughout this space with a butcher block counter and open shelving, creating a cohesive flow from the front to the back of the house. Additionally, this area boasts a kegerator with custom family tap handles, adding a personalized touch.

THE MUDROOM + DINING ROOM

A cozy mudroom with a wooden bench, pillows, wall hooks with coats, framed chalkboard, and two ceramic pet bowls on hardwood floor.

The mudroom was a small but essential focus area of this project. We wanted to ensure this busy family had a dedicated landing place for all their belongings. With ample cabinetry storage, a charming built-in bench, and plenty of hooks, there's no more jockeying to find a home for coats. The warm tones are continued throughout this space with a butcher block counter and open shelving, creating a cohesive flow from the front to the back of the house.

The dining room is equally captivating, exuding a handsome charm with its rustic elements. Adorned with artwork by a local Denver painter, the space is illuminated by warm lighting that enhances its inviting ambiance. The balanced furniture, characterized by rich wood tones, creates a harmonious and welcoming environment perfect for the family’s gatherings.

THE FIREPLACES + LIVING ROOMS

The wall behind is wooden and the floor is hardwood with a cowhide rug.

A double-sided fireplace means double the opportunity for a dramatic focal point, transforming two distinct spaces into cozy retreats. On the living room side, designed as a TV-free grown-up zone, we utilized reclaimed wooden planks to add layers of texture and warmth. This choice not only enhances the room’s cozy ambiance but also brings a rustic, inviting charm that encourages relaxation and conversation.

On the family room side, also known as the TV room, we introduced a different yet complementary design element. Here, we used travertine ledger stone, which beautifully ties in with the warm tones of the kitchen island. This thoughtful choice creates a cohesive look throughout the home while providing a unique and stylish backdrop for family gatherings and movie nights. The contrast between the rustic wood and elegant stone ensures each room maintains its own distinct character, yet both are unified by the shared warmth and charm of the double-sided fireplace.

THE STAIRCASE

The standard builder handrail simply wasn’t going to suffice for this home. To elevate the design and create a striking visual statement, we designed a custom steel and wood railing with a dark finish. This sophisticated feature contrasts beautifully against the walls, adding depth and interest to the space. The dark finish of the railing seamlessly ties in with the other dark accent finishes throughout the home, ensuring a cohesive and polished look. The result is a functional yet aesthetically pleasing element that enhances the overall design and brings a unique, modern touch to the home.
