This 1950s home was still holding on to elements of its original kitchen, which resulted in a dark, impractical space that no longer met our client’s needs. The kitchen lacked functionality, so our first priority was to design a layout that would significantly enhance its usability. We introduced functional cabinetry, uninterrupted work surfaces, and ample lighting to brighten up the kitchen.

Our clients also wanted to open up the new kitchen to the living room and create space for a larger dining table. We began by removing the existing cabinetry that visually divided the living space, minimizing the impact of the dramatic vaulted ceiling. To ensure seamless transitions between spaces, we extended the wood flooring into the kitchen. The result is a beautifully integrated, light-filled kitchen that perfectly complements the rest of the home, creating a welcoming environment for both daily living and entertaining.

We fell in love with the idea of two-toned cabinetry for this kitchen, ultimately choosing clean white painted base cabinets paired with textured wood-look melamine uppers. This combination provided a crisp backdrop that allowed us to introduce fun elements like the striking black light fixture over the table and the elegant silhouettes of the hardware.

We played extensively with directionality in this space. The elongated open shelves and rectangular backsplash tiles create wonderfully clean horizontal lines, while the vertical grain pattern on the wall cabinets and long black cabinetry pulls emphasize the verticality of the space, achieving a balanced and dynamic look.

Our clients, with their green thumbs, wanted to ensure there was a home for their growing plant collection. The open shelving offers plenty of opportunities for greenery and showcases charming kitchen accessories. This design not only feels like home but also brings together the clean lines and crisp finishes our clients desired, creating a harmonious and inviting kitchen space.
